Day 9: God in all things

I place myself in the Presence of God.

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
God, You are here, in my thoughts and in my heart; You envelop me with Your Presence.

Our whole life, with all our actions and exercises, and even our respiration, our work, our prayer, our pains and fatigue, in a word, all that makes up our life, must be directed by the thought of our union with God. The thought of uniting ourselves to God in all our actions and even in our way of acting must direct us and become habitual with us. (Louis Brisson, Chapter of February 18, 1891)

Scripture Text

Walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, Who is over all, and through all, and in all. (Ephesians 4: 2-6)

Reflection

One of Louis Brisson’s primary concerns was that men would clearly recognize God’s place in all things. He wanted it so that not only the Christians in France but also the political confusion of the 19th century as well would be suddenly shaken and a new thrust given to make each man aware that God has His place in all things, so that there might be more peace, more love, and more concern for humanity in guiding the world. In that way, wherever God’s action was hampered, the quality of life would be lost, but where I become one with Him, my life will be enlightened and bring forth fruit for the whole world. Thus, in all things, I must be one with God; even my breathing itself must be sustained by God.

• Am I ready to be one with God in all things?
• Do I offer Him each aspiration of my life?
  
• Where do I hamper God’s action?

Prayer

God of Love, each time I breathe, You are with me. You are present in all things, in my affairs, in my prayers, in my pains and my fatigue. For that I thank You with my whole heart, and for gifting me with Your love as well. You enlighten my life with Your light. Your strength inundates me. Let me feel Your presence anew each day, and not desire anything more ardently than You, so that I might open my heart to You, that You may dwell within it. Amen.
